Our Identity Groups

A Neuro-Affirming Identity: An Autism-Affirming Group for 10-12-year-olds

Facilitator: Sarah Thompson, LCPC

NeuroBears is a program for Autistic children ages 10-12 who are eager to explore and celebrate their neurodivergent identity. Our program offers a sensory-friendly space where they can learn about autism and uncover, understand, and celebrate their unique strengths.

Ages: 10-12

Day: Wednesdays

Time: 6-7 pm

Dates: Starting June 26

Duration: 6 Weeks

Identity Defined: Flourishing as Muslim-American Teens

Facilitator: Umniya Gabbani, LGPC

Identity Defined is a supportive group where Muslim-American teenagers can explore faith, culture, and identity together. This group provides a unique opportunity for teens to connect with peers who understand the challenges and joys of navigating multiple cultural worlds. Through dialogue and activities, we’ll discuss topics such as faith, religion, belonging, collectivism, family, and identity in a respectful and empathetic environment.

Ages: High School Students

Transfer Lines: A Cultural Processing Group for AAPI Young Professionals

Facilitator: Dr. Kristina Lee

Transfer Lines is a processing group tailored for early-career AAPI professionals ready to begin unpacking the complexities of their cultural identity. This group enables participants to explore adulthood in light of family expectations while processing complex themes like intergenerational traumas and conflicts.

Ages: Recent College Graduates

Day: Thursdays

Time: 6-7 pm

Duration: 8 Weeks

Imaginebuild: A LEGO group for Neurodivergent Kids

Facilitator: Dr. Brianna Kinsey

Imaginebuild is designed for neurodivergent kids who love LEGO! This group provides social connection while creating a space for kids to engage in their shared passion. We offer a rich environment for interactive play, collaboration, and decision-making-essential skills encouraged by LEGO activities. Tailored for ages 6-11, our group provides inclusive support for those developing fine motor skills.

Crafting Connections: An Anxiety Skills Group for Teens

Facilitator: Molly Dana, LGSW

Crafting Connections focuses on cultivating interpersonal communication skills while learning to better manage social anxiety. Participants will explore communication strategies in a supportive and fun setting while engaging in creative craft activities.

Ages: 13-16

What Would a Wise Mind Say?: Stress Management for Teens

Facilitator: Maggie Giese, LICSW, LCSW

What Would A Wise Mind Say focuses on teaching skills to manage intense stressors.  This group will provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for teens ages 14-17 to learn new ways to understand and manage their emotions, support thoughtful decision-making, and increase their ability to deal with life’s challenges. Participants will learn DBT strategies including mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance.

For: High School Students

Ready to Launch: A Group for Autistic College Freshmen

Facilitator: Dr. Bryce Gold

Ready to Launch is a two-session workshop-style group for Autistic rising college freshmen with one parent session. This group is facilitated by Dr. Bryce Gold, a licensed psychologist with expertise and passion for autism-affirming care. This group offers a safe and supportive space to address emotional regulation, sensory needs, and interpersonal readiness-key aspects of the college transition.

For: Rising College Freshman

In-Person Group: Bethesda Office: 7/20 & 7/21 (Saturday & Sunday 10:30am-1 pm)

Virtual Group: 7/23, 7/24, 7/30, 7/31 (Tuesday & Wednesday  5-6:15 pm)

Or Summer Stay: Processing Group for International Students

Facilitator: Dr. Pavani Khera

Summer Stay is a group for international college students staying on campus this summer. It offers a supportive group to connect with peers facing similar challenges.  Tailored for those unable to return home, topics include visa stress, health insurance, homesickness, staying connected, and finding US support. Participants will share experiences and develop coping strategies to enhance well-being.

For: International College Students

Your Neuro-Affirming Family: A Group for Parents of Autistic Kids

Facilitators: Dr. Kaitlyn Tiplady & Kathleen Tinkham, LICSW

Your Neuro-Affirming Family is a specialized support and education program tailored for parents of children newly identified with autism or seeking guidance. We cover various topics, including understanding the Autistic brain, implementing lifelong accommodations, embracing neuro-affirming perspectives, and providing insights from the children’s program NeuroBears.

For: Parents of kids with a recent autism diagnosis

Day: Thursdays

Time: 12-1:15 pm

Dates: Starting June 20

Duration: 6 Weeks
