A Bit About Me
Hello, I’m Jonnel Hector, a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist at Georgetown Psychology. For more than 25 years, I have had the privilege of helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges, strengthen their relationships, and create meaningful change.
I believe therapy provides an opportunity to slow down, better understand ourselves and our relationships, and explore the experiences and patterns that shape how we move through the world. Whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, experiencing difficulties in your relationships, navigating a significant life transition, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to provide a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.
Throughout my career, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups in a variety of clinical and educational settings. This breadth of experience has reinforced my belief that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship—one grounded in trust, empathy, authenticity, and collaboration.
My therapeutic approach is psychodynamic, relational, collaborative, and insight-oriented. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I work with clients to understand the experiences, relationships, emotions, and recurring patterns that may be influencing their current thoughts, behaviors, and relationships.
Together, we explore not only what is happening, but also why certain patterns may continue to emerge. With greater understanding comes the opportunity to make more intentional choices and develop healthier ways of responding to life’s challenges.
I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves. Depending on each client’s needs, our work may focus on developing greater self-awareness, improving emotional regulation, strengthening communication and relationships, building effective coping strategies, and navigating difficult transitions.
Ultimately, my goal is not simply to help clients manage the concerns that bring them to therapy, but to help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and create meaningful, sustainable change that extends beyond the therapy room.

My Education, Training & Community Involvement
I earned my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2004.

These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with individuals and families across different stages of life and have shaped my understanding of the complex ways that emotional well-being, family relationships, school, work, identity, and life experiences intersect.

I provide psychotherapy through Georgetown Psychology, working with clients who are seeking greater insight, healthier relationships, improved emotional well-being, and meaningful personal growth.
