Understanding Beyond Words.

This evaluation is designed for learners ages 2 through adulthood for whom communication differences would make traditional testing a challenge. This could include but is not limited to being Autistic and non or partially-speaking, having a genetic disorder that impacts communication, being a user of alternative/augmented communication, or having an intellectual disability. This evaluation utilizes a flexible battery of verbal and nonverbal standardized testing to assess executive functioning, emotional health, social development, visual problem-solving, verbal development, and critical thinking in learners with significant communication challenges or developmental delays. Questions that families may have that would be a good fit for this evaluation may be:

  • I know my child’s chronological age, but I’d like to better understand their developmental level. For example, my child is 12 years old, but I think they may be solving problems like a much younger child. I’d like to know more about their developmental age in different domains so their teachers can meet them where they are in their development.
  • I’m worried my child may be experiencing significant mental or emotional health concerns such as anxiety or depression, but because of their communication challenges, no one has been comfortable evaluating this.
  • My child is experiencing significant delays in all domains of learning and in learning to take care of themself at home. I’m wondering if Intellectual Disability may be a diagnosis that is appropriate for them.
  • My child has a diagnosis of Autism and is non/partially speaking and/or has a diagnosis of intellectual disability and will soon turn 18. I need an evaluation to help us decide if guardianship is right for them and, if so, to serve as documentation for the guardianship process.
