Meet Our Founder

Welcome to Georgetown Psychology!

I’m Dr. Maria Zimmitti, and I’m delighted to have you here. My journey to becoming a psychologist began with my personal mental health experience as a teen, navigating my parents’ divorce. That pivotal moment ignited my passion for psychology and eventually led me to move from Los Angeles to Washington, DC. There, I completed my internship at the Georgetown University Center for Child Development, gaining extensive experience in neurodevelopmental and psychoeducational assessment, with a particular focus on neurodivergence and co-occurring conditions.

After working in early intervention and at a school for students with learning differences, I decided to open my practice. My schedule filled up much faster than expected, and I soon found myself telling families their children would have to wait months for an appointment. As a parent myself, I understand that when you’re seeking an evaluation or therapy for yourself or your child, waiting is not an option—it’s more like a ticking clock. This urgency inspired me to create Georgetown Psychology and to expand to Bethesda and McLean, ensuring that you can access the services you need when and where you need them.

Navigating the complexities of life and parenthood in today’s world can be challenging. Each stage of life brings its own unique experiences and emotions, and we’re here to support you. That’s why we’ve expanded our services to include couples and family therapy.

We are committed to providing culturally responsive, neurodivergent- and gender-affirming care in a safe, inclusive space where individuals of all backgrounds, experiences, and identities can grow and live authentically.

Our motto, “Life Happens. We’re here.” reflects our promise to be a reliable source of support and guidance, no matter what life brings.

Thank you for choosing Georgetown Psychology. We look forward to being a part of your mental health journey.

Warmly,
