A Bit About Me

My name is Shakirra McKinley, and I am a dedicated and compassionate therapist who creates a therapeutic space where clients feel heard, valued, and supported. I bring over 10 years of experience as an elementary school counselor and more than 6 years as a practicing mental health counselor, offering a strong foundation in both educational and clinical settings.

My approach is rooted in empathy, cultural humility, and a deep respect for each individual’s unique journey. I foster a safe, nonjudgmental environment that encourages self-exploration, healing, and personal growth.

With a nuanced understanding of how identity, culture, and lived experience shape mental health, I honor the diverse backgrounds and stories of my clients. I meet each person with authenticity, openness, and care, ensuring they feel seen and understood throughout their therapeutic journey.

I am trained in the Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) protocol and integrate this approach into my trauma-informed care. I am committed to building strong, collaborative relationships with clients, empowering them to take an active role in their healing process.
